Engagement Photo Poses
Your engagement session is all about celebrating your love story and capturing the joy and excitement of this special chapter. But when it comes to being in front of the camera, many couples worry about how to pose naturally. The good news? You don’t have to be professional models to create stunning, heartfelt images! As a Gatlinburg photographer, I love guiding couples through simple, relaxed poses that highlight their connection. With the gorgeous Smoky Mountains as the perfect backdrop, of course! In this blog, I’m sharing some of my favorite engagement photo poses to help you feel comfortable, confident, and ready to shine during your session.
Sitting Poses
Starting off strong, this is a timeless and natural engagement photo pose that I have loved using with my couples this year. I will have you simply sit together on a blanket somewhere in the Smokies and cuddle up to each other. I really love the meadow setting with tall grass and wild flowers surrounding you as you laugh and cuddle into each other. It gives the images such a young and free vibe that adds to the magic of the mountains. This pose is relaxed and intimate, perfect for capturing genuine connection! It also allows for a mix of candid and posed moments.
Get Playful!
Some engagement photo poses are more like prompts to get you moving! This way I can get those candid moments that speak to your personalities and relationships dynamic. Whether it is in a field or during a hike I will encourage you to be picked up, swung around, twirled, play tag, the list goes on! I love getting to step back during these moments and let you just be yourselves. Using prompts to pose is one of the best ways to feel comfortable in front of the camera and capture genuine interactions during your photoshoot.
Classic Portraits
These are the images that will be framed and put up on your grandma’s mantel, and probably be used somewhere in your wedding invitation or wedding announcement. Its a classic portrait pose. You will stand close together and smile at the camera. Doesn’t get easier than that! Although candid styles of photography are trending (which I love!), it is important that we get a few classic portraits with a stunning Smoky Mountain backdrop.
Kiss & Dip
This is also a classic, but it is so fun that I have basically everyone I work with do it at least once during their engagement session! While we will get a lot of candid kissing photos through out your session, there is one kissing engagement photo pose that is pretty staged. Basically I will have your partner dip you backwards, supporting your back with one arm, and kiss you passionately! Then with their other hand they can hold your waist, leg, hand, wherever! These photos always deliver such a romantic and fun feel to your gallery, and even my couples who were skeptical about the pose love the outcome!
