How To Get Amazing Proposal Photos
Nothing beats the magic of a proposal in the Smoky Mountains… well maybe a Gatlinburg elopement! But, my point is if you want amazing proposal photos that will tell a story of love, adventure and grandeur. Then proposing in the Smokies is the way to do it! Let’s talk about how to plan your proposal and get amazing photos while you are at it!
Where To Propose?
When it comes to the Smoky Mountains, there is no shortage of locations to use. Each has its own unique backdrop, and most are pretty private for a truly romantic moment. Depending on the season and time of day I can give you recommendations for more intimate locations that still have the backdrop you are wanting. My personal favorite for engagements are the Foothills Parkway because of the grand view of the Smokies as well as the many options for outlooks to choose from.
When To Propose?
I can’t tell you when in your relationship to propose, that’s up to you! But, I can say that whenever you do decide to pop the question, golden hour is prime time during the day! Right before sunset is the perfect time to propose become as you are on one knee the sun will begin to fall over the horizon and create a warm and romantic glow. Which will add to the magic of the moment, and look great in your proposal photos!
Want To Make It A Surprise?
I never think of myself as a sneaky person until I am shooting a surprise proposal! There are a few ways that I have captured surprise proposals before. Your options are either one, I pretend to be a landscape photographer. Or two, you pair your proposal with family photos. Let me explain a little bit more on both:
Make it a surprise with just the two of you by planning to “meet” me at a predetermined location. How does this work best? In your inquiry form mention how you want this to be a surprise, then when we get on the phone we will discuss location and decide on a time. On the day of you’ll get to the location and see me photographing the landscape in a nearby spot, and once the moment happens I will turn your way and document your proposal! Easy as that!
Another way I have done surprise proposals is during a family session. Typically an extended family comes together (think all your siblings and their spouses and kids) in the Smokies for their family pictures, and your significant other gets invited too! Then when we break out for couples photos you pop the question!
Planning your proposal photos is such a fun and exciting time! Let’s get in touch and start planning to get your proposal photos!
