Let’s answer all your questions about a Micro wedding and take a little peek into what they may look like for you!
What Is A Micro Wedding
A micro wedding is basically a smaller wedding. There are less guests, less planning, less set up, and most importantly, less stress! Typically the guest list is no more than 50 people, and after the ceremony there is more scaled down version of a reception. Micro weddings are perfect for couples who want a meaningful celebration with their closest loved ones without the stress and expense of a large wedding. They’ve gained popularity in recent years, especially as couples prioritize quality over quantity. And are different from elopements, as elopements are usually just the couple with a few witnesses and lack a reception afterwards.
How To Start Planning A Micro Wedding
There are a few key elements of a micro wedding that will help you to get started planning. As a Gatlinburg photographer I love helping couples put together timelines, recommend local vendors and so much more! Check out my Gatlinburg elopement planning services here! But to give you a head start, here is how to start planning a micro wedding.
Guest List
First things first, let’s decide who is coming to your big day! Usually micro wedding only include close family and friends. No distant relative you haven’t seen since you were a child, or your parents neighbors you hardly know. This helps the day focus on meaningful relationships and connections, leading to a more sentimental day!
Location
The Smoky Mountains have dozens of locations for ceremonies and receptions! You can have your ceremony on an outlook in the Foothills, or in the valley of Cades Cove. Then move to your reception at a cabin or lodge. This is a part of planning that I recommend we talk about before deciding on. There are permit requirements and other insider knowledge that I can share with you to help you make the right choice for you!
Timeline
Generally speaking, you timeline for a micro wedding will be a lot shorter than a traditional wedding. After your ceremony you will likely take some bridal photos, which can be as long as you want! And then you will head over to your reception which will be an abbreviated version of a traditional reception. I recommend that you plan your reception around the typically events that you find the most important. For some couples this is toasts, speeches and first dances. For others its cake cutting, dinner and a sparkler exit. It is totally up to you!
How Much Does A Micro Wedding Cost
Another question I get often about micro weddings in Galtinburg is how much they cost. This is a tough one to answer because it varies so much! It depends on your budget and what you prioritize as a couple. I would say on the lower end you are looking at 3-4000. On the higher end, 7-10,000. Most of my couples are middle of the road at 5-6000, which I think is a happy medium! It gives you enough to book the vendors that mean the most to you, while still saving a lot fo money for your future goals and endevours!
