Engagement Photo Poses With Gatlinburg Photographer

Newly engaged? Engagement photos are some of the most beautiful of all of the sessions I do as a Gatlinburg photographer—and they need to be! These are the photos that are sent out on wedding invitations to literally everyone you know! And for many, these are the first professional photos of the relationship. Recently I went out with a gorgeous couple for their own Gatlinburg engagements, so today I’m going to share with you my best advice for engagement photo poses that are sure to stand out on those invites!

Posed

A good way to start the session is with posed photos. You’re just warming up to the photographer and getting used to the location. Our location for this session was the Foothills in the Smoky Mountains which felt very secluded and intimate. And when we got there, it was raining! Luckily, it cleared up just in time for the pics!

Traditional Portrait

The traditional portrait engagement photo pose is the one that’s probably going to end up on the front of your invitation, simply because you both look great! There are a lot of ways to do this successfully. We can do seated or standing. Headshot or full body shot. You can look and smile at the camera, look at each other, or give each other a kiss. The options are endless! But over all, it is an image that is posed to perfection.

Ring Shots

Another classic engagement photo pose is the ring shot! There’s no better time to show it off! We can do a ring shot with a strategically placed hand on the shoulder, hands around the neck, or by holding hands and extending them toward the camera for some great perspective shots. I absolutely love these kind of shots because of how they preserve the beauty of your engagement ring in it’s prime! Not to mention, these are classic shots for any couple.

Candid

Now that you’ve settled in, your Gatlinburg photographer should be ready to grab some more candid shots. And these are the best, and some of my favorites! Candid photography is requested by my clients for most sessions because we get to see more of you and the nature of your relationship together. Whether you are romantics, comics or simply best friends. Candid shots are a way I get to capture YOU!

Walk

I always suggest a walking engagement photo pose. Hold hands, look back at each other, and we get a glimpse of you walking through life together. But for these to really work, please walk slowly! Even at a slow pace we can capture beautiful movement from your clothing and hair. However, for a more adventurous and lively photo, I love having my couples run down the parkway together while holding hands. No matter your style, I have a candid pose for you!

Dance

Dancing together is another classic engagement photo pose. Pick a flashy move, like a dip, lift, or twirl for a fun picture full of life! Or you can simply slow dance in front of the stunning Smoky Mountains for a more intimate engagement photo. Both partners look beautiful and you’ll have so much fun. (These guys looked amazing!)

Pop Champagne

Here’s a less common one that deserves more hype: a champagne pop! What better way to show the celebration aspect of an engagement than a little bubbly! Of course, this can be a little tricky because it isn’t every day you practice popping champagne bottles. But luckily I have been around this a lot as a Gatlinburg photographer. So here is a hot tip, make sure to pop the cork away from your partner—and your photographer—after a little shake.

Pick Up your Partner

The threshold carry is the most romantic of the engagement photo poses. It looks straight out of a movie! But have you considered other ways to pick up your partner, like a piggyback ride or sitting on their shoulders? This couple did! And there Gatlinburg engagement photos have so much variety and an adventurous feel because of it!

When you’re ready to get your wedding started, don’t forget to book your Gatlinburg photographer. I’d love to help you get the perfect shot, engagement or elopement! Reach out and let’s chat!
