Extended Family Photos With A Baby
As a Gatlinburg photographer I get to capture a lot of different family types. From newly weds, to multiple generations, I do it all! And one of my favorite and most challenging types of shoots are family photos with a baby. I do all I can to make sure we get every shot you want, while baby is happy and ready to play! Here are my favorite poses and tips for photographing families with babies as a Gatlinburg family photographer.
Make A Shot List
A “shot list” is a list of photos that you really want to get out of your family photoshoot. This can be types of photos, like candid pictures with the kids playing. Or it can be specific people together in photos. By providing this to your photographer beforehand your session will run smoothly, and you will get all your must have images when your get your gallery back!
Before their extended family photo session, Mrs. Sanders shared with me her shot list in the questionnaire I send before every session. She let me know that she really wanted posed photos of her family. As well as different combinations of people for specific images. This helped me know exactly who she wanted together so that I could bring her vision to life!
Make It Sentimental
When taking family photos with a baby, find ways to add meaningful sentiments. This can be done in so many different ways! In addition, it helps baby and other small children engage more while taking pictures. Consider bringing their favorite stuff animal, an heirloom you plan to pass on to the baby, or even something new for them.
Something that made this family session special were the quilts that Mrs. Sanders made for her grandchildren! Each one was beautiful and unique, adding color and fun to their images. While the baby rolled and crawled around the blanket on the ground. Her older brother cuddled the blanket and wore it as a cape.
Candid Photos
In addition to posed photos with all the family, it is always a great idea to capture a few shots of kids being kids! As a Gatlinburg family photographer, I love bringing a wooden box and a delicate crocheted blanket for baby to sit in and play. As well as capturing darling moments between the children and their family members. Having a combination of posed and candid images makes for the perfect family photos with a baby!
The Sanderson’s had such a beautiful location outside of a cabin in the Smokies. The gave me so many options for location spots to capture their family as they played and hung out in between shots. My favorite would have to be having the family wander through the property, including a near by stream.
Family photos, especially those with small children and babies are so much fun! I have worked with dozens of families capturing their family so they can remember just how much they are enjoying their current stage of life!
