There is nothing more exciting than planning a surprise proposal. And there is no better place than Gatlinburg, Tennessee! With so many stunning locations to drop to one knee, as well as a darling town filled with restaurants to celebrate afterwards. You can’t go wrong with a Gatlinburg proposal! Here are my favorite places to propose in Gatlinburg, as a Smoky Mountain photographer.

Why Gatlinburg?

Gatlinburg is a small mountain town in eastern Tennessee, just outside of the Smoky Mountains. With dozens of fun attractions, gorgeous views and unique eateries. It is the perfect spot to celebrate an engagement, while exploring the surrounding area. In addition, in just under an hour you can be within the Smokies!

Kristopher and Abbey make an amazing couple. They love to travel, explore, golf, cook and watch movies together. So visiting Gatlinburg for their proposal was an amazing choice! While planning their proposal Kristopher found me through another photographer and was impressed with how I capture emotion. Which just confirmed his choice in getting engaged in the Smokies!

Smokey Mountain Foothills

Enjoy 33 miles of scenic beauty in the Smoky Mountains Foothills! Because the length of the Foothills, there are hundreds of gorgeous spots to propose. Each with a one-of-a-kind view of the mountains. I absolutely love the stone detailed walls as well as the curves of the road. Giving your images more depth and interest.

Parkway Outlooks

In addition to the Foothills, you will find many outlooks through the Smokies. These spots are the perfect places to propose in Gatlinburg as they offer the best views of the mountains. As a Gatlinburg photographer, I especially enjoy these locations during sunset. On a clear day you will have a warm glow of light. However, if it is overcast, then you will get an ethereal, cool glow through the clouds.

For Kristopher and Abbey’s proposal, we had a cloudy sky at sunset. This gave them such a whimsical look for their engagement photos. As a focussed on capturing their moment, the clouds added to the magic! Kristopher’s had mentioned that he wanted these images to bring back their memories of this day. And I think the weather combined with the moment will do just that for them in these images!

In The Woods Of The Smokies

For a more cozy location, consider going up against the tree line, or even into the woods! The Smoky Mountains have a large variety of native trees that will fill your backdrop with gorgeous hues of green in the summer, and orange in the fall. Travel a little further in and you will find water features and trails that will take your breathe away!
