Gatlinburg Family Photos With Baby

Time really does fly, and when you have a young family, you want to capture every moment of it! Add in a mix of kids, and it can be tricky to get great family photos with a baby. My experience as a Gatlinburg photographer has given me a lot of insight on how to have a successful family photoshoot.

Picking Outfits

When you’re picking outfits for a family photoshoot, especially photos with a baby, authenticity matters. Pick something that feels natural and comfortable to each family member. Don’t be afraid to incorporate different colors, patterns, and textures.

The Yates family featured their girl’s beautiful blue eyes with a teal onesie and bow for her baby pictures–isn’t she full of personality?  For their family photos, they picked neutral colors, and I loved how the denim, buttons, and gingham came together for a really natural, relaxed look.

Timing Your Photoshoot with a Baby

All parents know how much the time of day will impact your baby’s smiles. When you plan out your photoshoot, make sure you plan for a good nap and a snack beforehand. Once you get to the location, it’s a good strategy to start photographing the youngest family members and work up to the older ones. That being said, as a Gatlinburg photographer I’ll drop everything to take advantage of a cheerful baby, whenever she’s ready!

The Yates picked golden hour for their family photos, which turned out so stunning. Before we worked the whole family, we made sure to capture the baby's three month photos. She was energetic and ready to go–look at that winning grin.

Capturing Candid Moments

Getting the perfect candid moment is all about uncovering the relationships between family members. We prompted some beautiful moments by having the kids count on their fingers, run around mom and dad, and pile together on a blanket.  I loved seeing the siblings twinkling their fingers above the cot to get their baby sister to look and laugh. We added a lovely couple’s kiss to get some authentic reactions, and, of course, some family cuddle attacks!

At the end of the day, the candid moments were really just a side effect of a family’s love and connection.
