Gatlinburg Family Photographers Favorite Backdrops

I have been photographing in the Smokies for years as a Gatlinburg family photographer. In that time, I have been able to scope out some amazing locations that are not only family-friendly for all ages but also absolutely stunning! No matter the vibe of your session, I have a backdrop that will fit perfectly. Here are my favorite backdrops as a Gatlinburg photographer.

Foothills Outlooks

The Foothills have tons of outlooks that show off the natural beauty of the Smokies. If you are wanting a classic backdrop of the mountains, then this is the place to be! It is also super accessible, as well as kid-friendly. Most outlooks are surrounded by a dense forest line that keeps children from wandering too far. Plus, there is plenty of room to run around and get the wiggles out!

Rivers & Creeks

All Gatlinburg photographers know that we have no shortage of rivers and creeks. Seriously, you can find a creek around every corner in the Smoky Mountains. I have a few river locations that are easy to get to, some that display small waterfalls, but all of them are beautiful no matter the season! I do recommend that families with younger children avoid locations with water, mostly for safety. However, if there is a good ratio of adults to children then a river backdrop is still a great option!

Foothills Parkway

Yes, the Foothills outlooks are amazing, but have you seen the Parkway?! As a Gatlinburg photographer, this may just be my favorite backdrop. I love the depth that is created by the winding road through the forest. Which is especially gorgeous in the fall! In addition, I love posing families in front of the tree lines off the road and on the stone wall that offers a perfect view of the Smokies and the valley below.

Cades Cove

There is something special about Cades Cove. Maybe it is the valley's rich history or the scenic views of the Smokies. Either way, this is a Smoky Mountain backdrop that is a fan favorite! It is the ultimate location for little children, as they have more than enough space to play. The backdrop itself offers a wide view of the mountain range as well as a treeline that changes with the season. And if you are lucky enough you may get a wildlife siting while there!
