Gatlinburg Family Photographers Favorite Poses

I have captured hundreds of families in the Smokies as a Gatlinburg photographer. From locals who want yearly family photos to travelers who pass through and want rare family photos with the entire extended family! Family photos is a large part of my business, and I love it. I adore getting to create memorable moments for your family and capture the natural emotions that come with them! Here are my family poses for family sessions as a Gatlinburg family photographer.

Classic Family Photo

Everyone stands together and smiles! It doesn’t get more simple than that. This is the classic family portrait that we are all expecting during our family session. Which is why I like to use this pose at the beginning of family photos. This classic pose is one that allows individuals to grow more comfortable in front of my lens. Then as I see comfort grow, I will add in prompts for more candid options.

I will also grab portraits of just mom and dad, siblings, mom and daughters, and other combinations to give you a variety of portraits. This is even more special for extended family photos! Grandparents love to have pictures with all their grandchildren, aunts with their sister in laws, and so on.

Everyone Look At The Baby!

It may not always be the baby, but this prompt is great for a fun candid photo that evokes emotion. We choose one person in the group, and everyone looks to them. We can amp this up a notch in emotion by having everyone take turns telling that person why they love them.

A similar prompt I like to use is “Everyone look at the person who…” then I fill in the blanket with things like the person who gives the best hugs, makes you laugh the most, and so on. This always causes a bit of giggles and gives more variety as everyone looks to different family members.

Dance

This candid pose is one that everyone in the family can do! It is a fan favorite for kids. Creating whimsical images of children twirling at sunset while giggling and making fun memories. And it adds a touch of romance for mom and dad to get a little time together without children crawling on them.

There are so many ways to dance in family photos! Try the classic one-on-one, twirling and swaying. Everyone holds hands and dances in a circle, think ring-around-the-rosie. Solo twirling to bring movement qith flowy dresses. Mom and dad dancing with the children running around at their feet. The list goes on!

Family Photos in the Smoky Mountains always impress! Ready to book your family session with your Gatlinburg photographer? Reach out and let’s get started!
