How To Take Family Photos On Vacation
As your extended family grows it becomes more and more difficult to see each other. So when you do, you want to make it memorable! As a Smoky Mountain Family Photographer I get to photograph many extended families as they visit the National Park for family vacation photos. Capturing your entire family while together is so important, so here is a guide on how to take family photos on vacation.
Why The Smoky Mountains
Before anything else, you need to decide on a location for your extended family to vacation. And the Smoky Mountains may just be the perfect spot! With endless hikes, outlooks and adventures waiting, your family will enjoy exploring the beauty of Tennessee. In addition, just a short drive from the mountains is Knoxville, Tennessee. Where you can find shops, eateries, park, museums, and a mellow night life.
With so much to do in the mountains and the surrounding towns, Julie’s entire family had something to enjoy! When photographing extended families there is usually a lot of range in age. In Julie’s case, the 8 grandchildren of the group ranged from a 1 year to 18 years old.
Hire A Smoky Mountain Family Photographer
As a Smoky Mountain family photographer I have more than just experience behind the camera. I also have experience throughout the park! If you were to show me a picture from the Smokies, I could more than likely take you to the exact spot. Meaning I can get you the shots you want quickly! No searching online, or driving aimlessly through the Park. Your family vacation is only for a few days, don’t waste your time, book a photographer who knows the area!
In addition to knowing the area, I have familiarity working will all age groups and family sizes. When Julie found me on Instagram she was impressed with the many photos I had of large groups. As well as the images I took of young children in the families. Julie was concerned with the children loosing interest quickly, but with my experience I knew exactly how to keep the children’s attention long enough!
Communication & Trust
When hiring a photographer to take family photos on vacation be prepared to communicate what you are looking for. Sharing inspiration photos, poses, and location ideas will ensure that you get the photos that you are most excited about. If you are unsure about what you are looking for in your extended family photos, then let your photographer know! They should have plenty of ideas and suggestions for you.
Before our Smoky Mountain family photos session Julie let me know what she was most looking forward to for her family photos. She shared the backdrops she loves, the poses that interested her and a little about her family. With that communication I was able to capture both candid and posed images that they would cherish for years to come!
