Maternity Photos at University Of Tennessee Gardens

I love being one of the many photographers in Gatlinburg, TN. But every once in a while, I enjoy getting away from the mountains to photograph families, seniors, and maternity. So when my best friend told me she wanted her maternity pictures at the University of Tennessee Gardens, I was over the moon to get to travel into Knoxville and photograph this sweet family in a beautiful spot! Here are a few maternity photo tips that helped my bestie, and will help you too!

Location

The best piece of advice I can offer for maternity photos has to do with your location. Typically, we capture maternity photos around six or seven months, just as your bump becomes a respectable size. With a more apparent baby bump comes the discomfort of later pregnancy. So while choosing a location, keep it local. By doing so, you will avoid exhaustion from being out and uncomfortable.

If you are local to Knoxville, I can’t recommend University of Tennessee Garden enough! These botanical gardens are outstanding. There is lots of shade; the trails are always clear and well-maintained. And of course, the flowers are absolutely stunning!

the Best Pose For maternity

Posing for maternity photos is simple. Just touch your bump. That’s it! Walking along? Hold your bump. Sitting down? Touch the top of your bump. Posing with your partner? Have them touch your bump! Hold your baby the entire time, and I promise you will love your gallery so much more! This will give your body more definition and make it very apparent that your images are maternity, so when you look back you don’t feel as frumpy.

What Should I wear for My Maternity Photos?

The most important thing is for you to be comfortable. If you are not, it will show through in your images. I recommend long, flowy dresses that are lightweight and cotton. This type of dress will breathe easier, which is especially important if we do maternity photos in the summer. In addition, there are tons of options, from small local boutiques to online shopping with Amazon.

I also recommend having two, maybe three, outfit changes for mama. Any more than three seems to be exhausting, but changing your outfit once or twice give a nice variety to your gallery. Also, don’t have your entire family change outfits! Keep everyone else in something more neutral that will work with all of your outfits. This will save you time and your sanity!
