What Happens If It Rains On Your Gatlinburg Wedding?

If there is one thing us Gatlinburg photographers know how to handle, it is a rainy day wedding. And I’ll be honest, it is one of my favorite types of weddings! Not only is it good luck, but it also makes for dreamy wedding photos. Especially in the foggy Smoky Mountain landscape. But, if you are unsure about a rainy day, here is what happens if it rains on your Gatlinburg wedding.

Hope For The Best

Before anything else, we hope for the best! Nothing is guaranteed. The rain can last for 20 minutes, or the entire day. It can be a heavy down pour, or a very light sprinkle. We never know when in the mountains! But, I will say, I am a seasoned Gatlinburg wedding photographer. I have been shooting in rainy days in the Smoky Mountains for years and am beyond confident in this type of weather! So in addition to hoping for the best, trust your Gatlinburg photographer!

Look For A Gap & Have A Backup

Often times if you wait 15 minutes the rain will stop! If there is an obvious gap in the rain we can try to move your ceremony time. But with a permit from the National Park & multiple schedules (the officiant, hair & makeup, myself) that’s not guaranteed.

Your cabin can be a backup plan! This cabin was small, but the front porch was perfect for their ceremony.

Gatlinburg Wedding Photographer

I mentioned it above, and will again. Trust your Gatlinburg photographer! And choose a photographer who knows the ins and outs of the Smokies, is a pro at navigating the landscape and has the equipment to shoot in the rain. As well, when interviewing your photographer ask if they have clear umbrellas. I always carry a few because they are perfect for rainy wedding day photos!

If you are still not okay with a rainy wedding or elopement in Smoky Mountains, then consider Ely’s Mill for its covered pavillion. But either way, reach out and let’s make sure your elopement is captured the way you felt it.
