Favorite Places When Getting Married In The Smokies
While there are so many breathtaking locations to choose from. Here are a few of my personal favorites, each with its own personality, charm, and mood. These are places I return to again and again as a Gatlinburg elopement photographer, and every time, they deliver something special.
Foothills Parkway
If you’re dreaming of big mountain views, Foothills Parkway is your spot. This scenic drive stretches for miles, winding along the ridges with panoramic overlooks that light up at sunrise and glow at sunset. It’s one of the few places where you can have those sweeping, layered Smoky Mountain views without a long hike.
For couples who love dramatic skies and golden light, I often recommend timing your ceremony here around sunset. The soft, warm glow spilling across the mountains makes for some of the most magical portraits. And the best part? It’s easy to access, with multiple overlooks to choose from. Perfect for a quiet, just-us-two elopement or a small ceremony with family.
Cades Cove
Cades Cove is pure Smoky Mountain magic! Rolling fields, historic churches, rustic cabins, and wild deer grazing in the distance. It’s one of the most iconic (and beloved) parts of the park for good reason.
Couples who choose Cades Cove often want that timeless, romantic feeling: a ceremony beneath the trees, a first kiss framed by mountain ridges, or portraits in a golden field as the sun sets. There are several historic chapels here that can be reserved for weddings, or you can plan an outdoor elopement surrounded by the valley’s natural beauty.
Because Cades Cove is so popular, I always suggest an early morning ceremony. The light is stunning, the wildlife is active, and the loop road is peaceful before the crowds arrive. It’s an unforgettable way to start your wedding day.

Greenbrier
Tucked just outside Gatlinburg, Greenbrier is a hidden gem that feels worlds away. The sound of the river flowing beside you, the moss-covered stones, the towering trees. It’s the kind of place that makes you slow down and breathe it all in.
For couples who want a woodsy, romantic vibe, Greenbrier offers endless spots for a ceremony or portraits. You can exchange vows by the riverbank, stand on smooth stones surrounded by water, or find a forest clearing where sunlight filters through the leaves. It’s also incredibly easy to reach (no hiking required) and it’s less crowded than many other areas of the park, making it a perfect spot for peaceful, intimate ceremonies.
Bonus: it’s just a short drive from downtown Gatlinburg, which makes celebrating afterward a breeze.
Spence Cabin
If you’re envisioning a cozy, elegant elopement or a small wedding with family, Spence Cabin is a dream come true. Nestled along the Little River in the Elkmont Historic District, this beautifully restored 1920s cabin is one of the few indoor venues within the national park.
The stone patios and riverside terrace make a gorgeous ceremony backdrop, and the cabin’s vintage charm photographs beautifully. Think pale green woodwork, screened porches, and soft natural light filtering through the windows.
Because it’s managed through a reservation system, you’ll need to plan ahead and secure both a Special Use Permit and a rental reservation, but it’s so worth it. Every couple I’ve photographed here has fallen in love with its quiet, nostalgic feel.
