How I Pose Extended Family Photos

As a Gatlinburg photographer I get to meet a lot of large families wanting to pose together as an extended family. Whether it is three generations, or five, I always enjoy getting everyone together for that perfect shot! Here is how I pose extended family photos, so that you can cherish these memories for decades to come.

All Together

A must have shot for a lot of families is having everyone together. After all, you did manage to get everyone there at one time! There are a couple different ways we can get this shot, depending on circumstances and needs. One of my favorites is having everybody leaning in together as they stand in front of a stunning mountain backdrop. However, if standing for long periods of time is difficult for some, or you have so many people that you need a few sitting to get everyone in the shot, we will adjust to have a few people sitting.

For Courtney’s family photos there were three generations with just two grandchildren. This made posing fun and easy! We were able to capture everyone’s personalities as they leaned in close and cracked jokes with the kids!

Individual Families

Once we ensure that we get a shot of everyone together, I will break you up into individual families. This way everyone walks away with family photos for their own family of creation, as well as their family of origin. Making your extended family photos in Gatlinburg more worth it in the end!

If you have children, like Courtney’s sister, then I will be sure to get a few shots of just mom and dad. These photos are a chance to enjoy each other while aunts and uncles entertain the children. I love the fun that parents have as they pose together for couples photos in Gatlinburg.

Grandparents

In addition to separating into individual families, I will also pair up grandchildren with grandparents. There is such a special bond in those relationships that deserve to be documented at all stages of your child’s life! These are family pictures that both grandparents and parents will adore for years to come!
