Prepare kids for Gatlinburg family photos

When you have a young family, getting quality family photos is so important. We want to have keepsakes of every stage of our lives, and that includes watching our children grow! But sometimes preparing our children for Gatlinburg family photos can be stressful, or just avoided all together. As your Gatlinburg photographer let me share some great tips for prepping your children for family pictures.

Talk About Your Session Together

One of the best ways to prepare our kids for the experience of having their pictures taken is to talk to them before hand. Especially if formal family photos are infrequent. Let them know you will be seeing your favorite Gatlinburg photographer again, if you already have a favorite! Or talk about your new photographer, share a picture to get them familiar, and of course show them some Gatlinburg family photos. This will mentally prepare them for the new smiley face behind the camera, as well as excite them for their own epi photos!

Comfortable Clothing

As a mom, I get it! Keeping your kids clothes nice can be so difficult. And we all have that temptation to hide all the clothes in a box in your closet until 5 minutes before the shoot. But don’t do this! Kids need to try on and adjust to the clothes they’ll wear. This way, if something doesn’t fit right, you’ll have come up with an alternative before you’re piling in the car.

Arrive Early

This may just be the most important tip of them all! By planning to arrive early you will be able to introduce the new location to your children so they can explore a bit and get comfortable before the camera comes out. Also, it allows time for set backs. For example, toddlers with fits, kids deciding now is the time to go to the bathroom, or even if you get stuck before a slow moving vehicle.

Snacks & Smiles

This tip is great for younger families with little children, as well as families with teens! And honestly, every type of photoshoot you can think of. Bring some light snacks for when the hunger hits! Because trust me it will. Whether your toddler needs a slight distraction, you are starting to feel the hanger swell up inside, or are starting to feel exhausted. Food can help you all make it to the end of your session with Gatlinburg photographer.

Are you ready to book your Gatlinburg family photos? Reach out! No matter the season, family pictures in the mountains are always a great idea!
